NanotechProgress

The smallest technology, followed closely

Nanotech Progress is free and independent. It follows 34 nanotechnologies across 8 parts of daily life and places each on a five-step ladder from lab discovery to everyday use, from dated public sources anyone can check.

What we do

Report, don't judge

Every morning the site reads nanotechnology news, research databases, the clinical trials register and makers' announcements, and adds what is new to each technology's dated record. Its stage follows from published rules, never from our opinion.

Nanotechnology news is full of breakthroughs that never reach anyone, and products that use “nano” as a label. For each technology we answer two plain questions: how far has it actually got, and does the nanoscale really do the work?

We never rate or rank, never sell a stage, and never invent a fact. Where our sources are silent, we say so. How we work.

The Progress series

One question, four frontiers

Nanotech Progress is one of the Progress sites from Simplify Software. Each follows a technology likely to change how we live, asks how far it has actually got, and answers from public sources in plain English.

  1. You are hereNanotech ProgressHow far the world's smallest technology has really got.
  2. Sister siteIntelligence ProgressWhat AI can actually do today.
  3. Sister siteRobotics ProgressHow far robots have actually got.
  4. Sister siteLongevity ProgressThe science of living longer, checked daily.

The sites meet where their fields do: nanomedicine runs into the science of living longer, and the chips built at the nanoscale are what AI runs on.

Who runs it

Yale Marc, founder and publisher

I'm Yale Marc, the founder and publisher of Nanotech Progress. I'm a senior software engineer with about 20 years of experience, including projects for NASA and DARPA. I don't work for any nanotechnology company, and that's exactly why this site works the way it does.

It doesn't ask you to trust my opinion, or anyone's. It gathers the news every morning, shows how far each technology has actually got, checks whether it is really nano, and links every claim to its source.

Why I built it

Nanotechnology is announced as a breakthrough almost every day, and "nano" is printed on products that have little to do with it. Whether a new treatment, battery or material will ever reach you usually has an honest answer, but it's buried in research papers, trial registers, regulators' decisions and company filings that few people have time to read. I wanted one free, independent place, in plain English, that shows where each technology really is and keeps up as it changes.

Nanotech Progress is published by Simplify Software.

How we decide

Rules, not opinions

Every stage comes from written rules applied to dated, sourced milestones, so anyone can check why a technology sits where it does. Company announcements are flagged until something independent backs them, and no one can pay to change a stage or what we cover.
