Anode

The battery electrode that stores lithium when a lithium-ion battery is charged.

A lithium-ion battery stores charge by moving lithium between two electrodes. When it charges, lithium moves into the anode, which is usually graphite. Silicon can hold far more lithium, which is why nano-engineered silicon anodes are reaching phones and cars.
