Silicon nanowire battery anodes

Instead of graphite, the anode in Amprius's batteries is close to pure silicon grown as a dense forest of nanowires, more than a million per square centimeter. The thin wires give the silicon room to swell without breaking.

A regulator approved or cleared it where approval applies (the FDA, the EMA, a CE mark), or it is sold to the public or to customers beyond a trial.

The short version

What you need to know

Why it matters

More energy for the weight means longer flights for drones and high-altitude aircraft.

Is it really nano?

Truly nano

The anode is the nanowires: their shape is what lets nearly pure silicon work.
